Google lost $100 billion in capitalization due to Its AI error
Google's market value has dropped by $100 billion after its new chatbot Bard with artificial intelligence shared false information in an ads video, Reuters reports.
In the advertisement, the chatbot is asked the question: "What new discoveries of the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) can I tell my 9-year-old child about?", to which Bard gave several answers, one of which was the assumption that JWST was used to get the very first images of planets outside the Solar system. But the first images were taken by the Very Large Telescope (VLT) of the European Southern Observatory back in 2004, which was confirmed by NASA.
After that, the company's shares fell by 9%. Google representatives said they will test Bard and will not release it until they are sure that all AI responses meet quality standards and are based on real information.
The Bard chatbot using AI was created by Google to compete with OpenAL's Chat GPT chatbot, which quickly gained popularity around the world.
