The 16th meeting of the TRACECA Intergovernmental Commission (Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia) takes place on Friday, February 10, in the capital of Georgia, Tbilisi. The Agency of Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan is also represented at the annual meeting of the heads of the transport sector of the participating countries.

Turkmenistan intends to join the multilateral Agreement on the international transport corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia, which was signed in Baku on September 8, 1998. At the same time, the country regularly participates in international meetings under the TRACECA program, within the framework of which it carries out multimodal transportation through the ports of Turkmenbashy-Baku and accepts transit cargo flows, being on the main routes connecting the Central Asian region with the Caucasus, Europe, Asia, and the Far East.

The participants of the meeting were informed about the work being carried out by Turkmenistan on joining the Agreement and on the development of the country's transport infrastructure, including the active introduction of the national system of electronic transport documents, which is becoming a leading link in simplifying the procedures for deliveries by rail and road, air, river and sea vessels, starting from the application mechanism, tracking cargo flows, payment for transportation by customers, before analyzing logistics and evaluating efficiency.

In order to integrate these systems with international waybill platforms, such as CIM-SMGS, TIR-EPD and e-SMR, work is underway to join the relevant international treaties.

The construction of highways, interchanges, bridges is being carried out at an accelerated pace in the country. The region's largest automobile and railway bridges over the Amu Darya River, connecting the highways of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, have been put into operation, significantly accelerating the movement of traffic flows in both directions. The functioning International airports of Ashgabat, Turkmenabat, Turkmenbashy, Mary, Dashoguz and Kerki dramatically increase the transit potential of the country.

The Turkmen side also focused the attention of the meeting participants on the possibilities of the Turkmenbashy International Seaport, which has a capacity of more than 27 million tons of cargo per year and is capable of simultaneously receiving 17 ships. A big role is also assigned to the modernization of the railway industry of Turkmenistan, the renewal of its rolling stock.

The program for the development of transport diplomacy of Turkmenistan for 2022-2025 provides for strategically important measures aimed at the comprehensive modernization of the material and technical base of all types of transport in Turkmenistan, the formation of a modern profile infrastructure, further strengthening the country's position as a regional center of international transport and transit corridors.

At the meeting in Tbilisi, the official transfer of the mandate of the chairmanship of the IPC from Bulgaria to Georgia took place. The meeting was also attended by representatives of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Romania, Tajikistan, Turkey, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, the European Commission, OSJD and other international organizations.
