The Olympic Movement creates a fund to help victims of earthquakes in Turkey and Syria

The Olympic Movement has announced the creation of an emergency fund to help victims of earthquakes that occurred in Turkey and neighboring Syria.
The emergency fund is $ 1 million, including contributions from both the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) in the amount of 250 thousand US dollars, 250 thousand euros from the European Olympic Committees and 260 thousand dollars from the Olympic Refuge Foundation (ORF).
"I spoke with the presidents of the National Olympic Committees of Turkey and Syria, who spoke about the impact of the earthquake on many members of the Olympic community. Unfortunately, there are athletes and members of the Olympic movement among the victims, many have lost their homes, the sports infrastructure has been seriously damaged," said Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee.
The head of the IOC added that emergency assistance to the IOC in Turkey will be provided through the Olympic Refuge Foundation and local partners. And in Syria, work will be carried out with international non-governmental organizations and UN agencies that have access to the affected areas.
It should be noted that the Olympic Refuge Foundation has allocated funds within the first year of financing its program "Sport in the name of Solidarity". The program's activities are carried out in Turkey, using sports to help refugees and shelter seekers.
