There are plans to hold championships and championships in individual sports in the CIS


It is planned to hold championships in individual sports in the Commonwealth of Independent States. The relevant draft Regulation was considered at a meeting of the expert group on Thursday, February 9 at the CIS headquarters in Minsk.
The meeting was attended by representatives of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and the CIS Executive Committee.
During the meeting, the experts agreed on the new name of the draft document – the Regulations on the CIS Championship (Championship, Cup), finalized and agreed on its text, and also developed and agreed on draft decisions of the Council of Foreign Ministers and the Council of CIS Heads of Government on this issue, the press service of the Executive committee reports.
The idea of organizing these events was formed on the basis of the need for status sports competitions between the Games of the CIS countries.
The draft Regulation provides for the procedure for organizing championships in the Commonwealth countries in Olympic, Paralympic, Deaflympics (Deaflympics), technical, aviation, military-applied and service-applied, non-Olympic and national sports.
The decision on the place and timing of these sports competitions will be made by the CIS Council for Physical Culture and Sports, including by forming a calendar plan for the championships.
Earlier, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov at the CIS summit, held in October 2022 in Astana, proposed to create a coordinating committee for international sports games under the auspices of the CIS Council for Physical Culture and Sports – "Friendship Games".
According to the idea of the head of Turkmenistan, the "Friendship Games" should be open so that athletes not only from CIS countries, but also from other countries can take part in them. These competitions can be seasonal – summer and winter, they can be organized as youth and youth, in individual sports and in other formats.
Putting forward this proposal, Turkmenistan expressed its readiness to host the first "Friendship Games", having good experience in hosting major international tournaments and modern infrastructure.
