Turkmenistan national chess team returned to the "top hundred" of the world ranking

In the FIDE chess federation ranking published in early January 2023, Turkmenistan is again ranked 67th, which means that the rating level of the country's top 10 chess players has returned to the pre-pandemic level.

The current average rating of the men's "top ten" of the country is now 2362. During 2017-2021, the position of Turkmen chess fluctuated between 64-67 places, while by mid-2022, due to the lack of tournament practice for more than two years and, as a result, the inclusion of many leading chess players in the inactive list, Turkmenistan temporarily dropped into the second hundred of the rating.

The participation of our leading chess players in the Asian Championship in India in October-November 2022 helped to regain their previous positions in the world ranking. Recall that our compatriots not only restored and raised their game ratings, but two of them were also able to fulfill the qualification standards of a grandmaster (in the case of Sapamyrat Atabayev) and an international master (Azat Nurmammedov).
As for the women's national team, not all of the country's leading chess players have yet managed to restore their international ratings to the status of "active", and therefore the women's team still has to be content with only 96th place in the ranking of 200 countries of the world.
The average rating of 10 chess players who have remained "active" is now at the level of 1614, which, of course, is significantly lower than the real strength of the game of our strongest girls.
The Chess Federation of Turkmenistan hopes that the upcoming official tournaments in 2023 will help raise the position of the women's national team to a decent previous level, or even higher.
The leaders of the men's and women's teams were placed, respectively, as follows:
