Behind the scenes of the concert rehearsal: what Broadway artists talk about
The works of famous Broadway musicals will be performed in Ashgabat by American artists Kate Bass and Aaron Young. They will sing to the musical accompaniment of the State Symphony Orchestra conducted by Rasul Klychev.
The artists came to Turkmenistan under the cultural program of the US Embassy "American Music abroad" (American music abroad) and will give the only concert in the Turkmen capital, which will be held on February 10 on the stage of the Mukam Palace.
The repertoire will be very diverse – works from the cult Broadway musicals "West Side Story", "The Phantom of the Opera", "Aladdin", "Candida", "Pirates of the Caribbean" and much more will be performed. Listeners are also waiting for pleasant surprises.
For example, the Turkmen State Choir will participate in the concert, as well as students of the National Conservatory – Dovran Shammyyev and Dunyagozel Begaliyeva. Together with American artists, they will perform works from famous musicals and "transfer" the audience to the stage of Broadway theaters. What awaits the audience, and what the concert program will be in an interview with Orient journalist, artists Kate Bass and Aaron Young told:
― The program will be very diverse, bright and well-known musical compositions from the repertoire of Broadway musicals and other famous composers will be heard by almost everyone. We will also perform works from Disney films. I won't say the names, it will be a surprise for the audience, but I will say one thing – there will be music for every listener at the concert. And everyone who comes to the performance will feel that this evening the artists and musicians of the orchestra are performing just for him," says Aaron Young, a musician and actor of Broadway musicals.
But the singer, composer and songwriter Kate Bass, for her unique voice and performing qualities, was called "one of the best vocalists in the world" by the world press. She is an opera singer and for some time was a soloist of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, has repeatedly given concerts at Carnegie Hall, on Broadway and beyond in theatrical productions nominated for Emmy and Tony Awards. Kate has released four albums, goes on concert tours around the world and her performances are always sold out.
― I performed in the Broadway musical "Carousel". Compositions from this and other iconic Broadway performances will be performed at the Ashgabat concert. My musical career "pushes" the boundaries of theaters and orchestras and allows me to perform in different countries of the world, participate in intercultural programs and create amazing musical projects and collaborations.
I really hope that we will return to Turkmenistan again and continue our cooperation. I would really like to create, for example, an interesting educational project and work with Turkmen students. Write new music, organize joint performances with talented musicians and do a lot more interesting things, - Kate Bass shared her thoughts.
― Aaron and I come from Alaska and Ashgabat has become like a piece of home for us – the white city is framed by high mountains, the landscapes reminded us of our native places. But I associate Turkmens with the words "sincerity and friendliness". With many people whom I have met here over these few days, I am sure that I will remain friends forever," said the American artist.
Aaron Young, in turn, noted that he, as a traveler with experience, has visited many countries of the world and wherever he comes, always tastes the national cuisine. Turkmen dishes are simply a delight, he said, and he will be happy to return to the country to experience these unique tastes once again.
"And, of course, I would like to implement a joint musical project with my Turkmen colleagues. I hope we will be able to implement our plans," he said in an interview with Orientation.
The concert will take place on February 10 at the Mukam Palace in the capital. It starts at 18:00, admission is free.
