Youth social project "Blindness is not a sentence" launched in Turkmenistan


A social project "Blindness is not a sentence" has been launched in Turkmenistan, according to a press release from the country office of the International Organization for Migration.
The initiator of the project, which is being implemented within the framework of a grant to support youth leadership, is the head of the Youth Committee of the Society of the Blind and Deaf of Turkmenistan, Shabibi Osmanova.
Her idea is aimed at helping people who have become blind late in overcoming emotional and psychological barriers, promoting their integration into society.
The project will involve 50 visually impaired people living in Ashgabat, Dashoguz and Balkanabad. They will undergo trainings in which they will consider various methods of overcoming everyday problems, get acquainted with the ways of orientation in space, and also increase their awareness in the field of information technology. Trainers who are also visually impaired will present training materials on the "peer–to-peer" method.
The initiative is part of the project of the International Organization for Migration "Strengthening Youth Potential through Participation in Society", which is implemented in partnership with the Eurasia Foundation (EF) and the Social Innovations in Central Asia (SICA) program and is funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID).
