The UNICEF representative office in Turkmenistan, together with the Ministry of Education and the National Institute of Education of the country, presented methodological manuals on adaptation to climate change for secondary school teachers. This is reported in a distributed press release of the organization.

These are the first such publications in Central Asia, which will help to optimize the teaching process, expand the knowledge and skills of schoolchildren on climate change, environmental protection and disaster risk reduction. Thus, the topic of adaptation to climate change will be included in the curriculum of such subjects of primary and secondary education as natural science, ecology, geography, fundamentals of life and agriculture.

"This is a great opportunity to support national efforts to adapt to climate change, reduce the risk of environmental and natural disasters, promote awareness—raising and change the behavior of schoolchildren in Turkmenistan," UNICEF representative in Turkmenistan Mohammad Fayazi said at the presentation ceremony. He also noted that the manuals are designed to ensure the sustainability of the education system within the framework of achieving the 2030 Agenda.

Representatives of the education sector received over 8 thousand copies of five new guidelines on adaptation to climate change.
