On January 30th, a meeting between the Speaker of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and the Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation was held in the capital.
Future possibilities of bilateral parliamentary cooperation, relations within the framework of peer committees, effective exchange of experience in lawmaking were discussed. In this regard, confidence was expressed that the visit of the head of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation to Ashgabat and the current meeting will give a positive impulse to these activities.
The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation was informed about the decisions taken on the creation of Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan and the transformation of the national parliament into a one-chambr system at the joint session of Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan, with the participation of public representatives of the country, on January 21st of this year. It was said that Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was appointed as the Chairman of Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan and was legally recognized as the National Leader of the Turkmen people. In this regard, relevant legal documents were adopted.
The term of office of deputies of the sixth convocation of the Parliament ends in March of this year. Using the opportunity, the head of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan invited the Russian parliamentarians to participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections in the country as international observers. The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation confirmed that the State Duma will send its representatives to Turkmenistan.

The importance of cooperation in various multilateral activities was also emphasized.
At the end of his speech, the Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation said that the path of peace, friendship and cooperation is a reliable basis for the development of relations between Russia and Turkmenistan.
