Earthquake of magnitude 5.9 occurred in the north-west of Iran, there are victims


An earthquake of magnitude 5.9 occurred in northwestern Iran on Saturday. On Sunday afternoon, the Iranian media wrote about three dead and 816 injured as a result of the earthquake. This was announced by the governor of the province of West Azerbaijan Mohammad Sadegh Motamedyan.
The hearth lay at a depth of 43 km, the epicenter was 23 km south-east of the city of Hoi. According to initial estimates, the earthquake caused damage to 2 cities and more than 70 villages, destroyed up to 50% of the buildings in them.
Hamid Mahbubi, head of the Red Crescent Society of Western Azerbaijan, told IPN that 500 rescuers were sent to Khoi, as well as groups to assess the damage.
The earthquake was also felt in the city of Nakhichevan of Azerbaijan, Sputnik Azerbaijan reports. The tremors lasted about 10-15 seconds, there were no casualties in the country.
