The Olympic Council of Asia invited Russian and Belarusian athletes to take part in the Asian Games
The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) invited Russian and Belarusian athletes to take part in the Asian Games, according to the organization's website.
In December, at the Olympic summit, the head of the OCA announced about readiness to accept athletes from the Russian Federation at competitions in Asia. On Wednesday, the IOC executive committee supported the OCA in an effort to provide the Russians with a venue for the competition.
“OCA believes in the unifying power of sport and that all athletes, regardless of their nationality or passport, should be able to compete. The OCA has invited eligible Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete in the region, including the Asian Games,” the statement said.
The Asian Games will be held in Hangzhou, China from September 23 to October 8.
