Azerbaijan assumed the chairmanship of the ECO in 2023


Azerbaijan assumed the chairmanship of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) in 2023, ECO Secretary General Khusrav Noziri told reporters on Tuesday.
Uzbekistan chaired the ECO in 2022. A regular meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the organization was held in Tashkent on Tuesday.
"Having thanked all the member states for their strong support and commitment to the ECO goals, I would also like to welcome the Republic of Azerbaijan as the ECO Chairman in 2023," Noziri said at a briefing following the meeting.
The Secretary General of the organization expressed hope that Azerbaijan "will give a new impetus to the ECO agenda, in particular by expanding cooperation within the framework of the theme "green transition and interconnectedness".
ECO is a regional interstate economic organization established in 1985. It includes Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
