For the first time, a successful operation to separate Siamese twins was carried out in Uzbekistan. Parents of five-month-old twins from Kyrgyzstan turned to the training and treatment center for neonatal surgery at the Republican Perinatal Center in Tashkent, where Uzbek surgeons performed the most complicated medical procedure, the Telegram channel of the country's Ministry of Health reports.

The Uzbek center is known in the region and not only as an institution with a unique experience in complex operations on newborns. Babies Fotima and Zuhra were born on May 31, 2022 as Siamese twins. The unusual condition was discovered at 28 weeks of gestation, and at 29 weeks the decision was made to deliver by caesarean section. The total weight of the twins at birth was 1600 grams.

The girls' gallbladders formed separately, which reduced the risks of surgery. To prevent severe bleeding, the surgeons used a modern bloodstop hemostatic material, as well as ultrasound and an argon scalpel. The separation operation was completed with minimal bleeding.

The condition of the children is assessed by specialists as stable, and in the near future the girls will be discharged from the hospital.
