Russian companies consider Turkmenistan's market to be one of the most promising, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Alexey Gruzdev said on Thursday at the Turkmen-Russian Business Forum in Ashgabat.

He noted that over 60% of the bilateral trade turnover is represented by the products of the industrial sectors of the two countries - metallurgical, machine-building and chemical.

"Russian companies demonstrate a high interest in working in the market of Turkmenistan and reasonably consider it one of the most promising," the Deputy head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation stressed.

He noted that Russian companies approach the work in the Turkmen market comprehensively, and in addition to the supply of machinery and equipment, they pay special attention to the issues of service maintenance, personnel training and others. As an example, Gruzdev cited the activities of Kamaz, which develops not only a sales network here, but also a network for the repair and maintenance of cars.

"We certainly strive for deeper industrial cooperation, and we are ready to share our competencies and experience with our Turkmen partners. And here in the field of our attention metallurgy, chemical industry, and quite a new direction from the point of view of cooperation – civil shipbuilding," the Deputy minister added.

On December 7, 2022, an Agreement on cooperation on the joint construction of bulk carriers/container ships was signed between the Open Joint-Stock Company "Balkan Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Plant" (Turkmenistan) and the Joint-Stock Company "United Industrial Corporation "Ak Bars" (Republic of Tatarstan, Russian Federation).

In total, from 2009 to 2020, 6 oil tankers and 2 high-speed passenger vessels were built and purchased at the shipbuilding plants of the Russian Federation for the National Navy of Turkmenistan.
