A national group on Global GAP agricultural standards is planned to be created in Turkmenistan


The possibilities of creating a National Technical Working Group on Global GAP in Turkmenistan, as well as the benefits that it will bring to agricultural producers and the country's economy, were discussed at consultations in Ashgabat on Thursday. The event was held by the Program of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) "Safe migration in Central Asia" jointly with the Union of Entrepreneurs and Industrialists of Turkmenistan and the German company for certification of agricultural quality standards Global GAP with the participation of the Union of Economists of Turkmenistan.
The mechanism of the GLOBAL GAP National Technical Working Groups with an overview of best practices in Central Asia and other countries was presented at the meeting, progress in the implementation of this standard in Turkmenistan was assessed.
Global GAP is an independent organization that defines the requirements for voluntary certification of agricultural products worldwide. The main goal is to establish a single standard of "Good Agricultural Practice" (G.A.P.), applicable to all types of agricultural products.

The Global GAP certification program affects all stages of production, starting with feed and seed material and ending with finished products produced by agricultural enterprises, benefiting farmers, retailers and consumers around the world. It is a brand of smart farm security solutions developed by FoodPLUS GmbH in Cologne, Germany.
The activities of the national technical working group on Global GAP in Turkmenistan will be aimed at creating favorable conditions for the implementation of Global GAP standards, facilitating the certification of Turkmen companies and the growth of the export potential of agricultural business through trainings on improving product quality, training local consultants. In addition, its functions will include the organization of annual free or preferential participation of representatives of Turkmen companies in agro-tours, industry exhibitions and summits in the participating countries of Global GAP (and these are more than 40 countries, including the USA, Germany, Great Britain, France, Switzerland, Belgium, etc.).

Globally recognized Global GAP quality standards cover three areas of production: crop production, animal husbandry, aquaculture and consist of more than 40 standards in the following directions: food safety and traceability; environment and biodiversity; health, safety and well-being of workers; animal care; integrated crop management and pest control; quality management system and risk analysis.
Certification by Global GAP standards will enable Turkmen agricultural producers to export crop products - fruits and vegetables, flowers and ornamental plants, seeds, etc., as well as feed components and agricultural processing products, including the livestock sector.

Global GAP standardization is designed to help improve farm management, increase the efficiency of agricultural processes, protect environmental resources and provide access to international markets. It is tested, tested and trusted all over the world. Global GAP certification is carried out by more than 100 accredited certification bodies in 80 countries.
