The winter of 2023 will enter the meteorological history of Turkmenistan
Abnormal frosts have "shackled" Turkmenistan these days, and record sub-zero temperatures were observed in some parts of the country. For example, this morning in the capital's residential area "Taze Zaman" the thermometer showed -20 degrees, and residents of the town of Yanbash – in the suburbs of Ashgabat, recorded -18.
In the capital, the weather cleared up only closer to noon and the air temperature showed negative 11 degrees, which, coupled with a strong wind, felt as like -15-17 °.
Such "Siberian frosts" do not happen every year in Turkmenistan. The last time such cold weather was observed in 2008. Now the winter of 2023 will be remembered for record minus marks. Even in the subtropical Esenguly on Thursday morning, the temperature dropped to -10.8° below zero. This is a record. Previously, the lowest temperature of -7.5 degrees was recorded here in 1935, according to "Meteojournal".
In the village of Uch-ajy, Mary region, minus 26.2 ° was recorded today, and in Turkmenabad frosts reached -22°. This is 6 degrees colder than the record minimum temperature of the day -16 °, which was recorded here in 1974.
Records of sub–zero temperature were also broken in Serakhs - -17.9° was noted here. The lowest temperature of -11.4 ° in these parts was observed in 1977, but it is several degrees warmer than today's figure, writes Meteojournal.
