Chairman of Halk Maslahaty of Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a joint meeting of Halk Maslahaty and Mejlis of Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan in the building of the Congress Center in Ashgabat.
Addressing the meeting participants, Chairman of Halk Maslahaty of Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said with the establishment of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan and giving it wide powers, including the authority to consider and approve proposals on the issues of adopting the Constitution of Turkmenistan and constitutional laws, introducing amendments and addenda to them, it would be announced that the work of the Halk Maslahaty of the Milli Gengesh is abolished. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that it is expedient to transform the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan, that is the Parliament, which exercises legislative power in the country, into the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, which consists of one chamber.
As stated, it would be appropriate that the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan to be re-created will include:

Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan;

President of Turkmenistan;

Chairman of Mejlis;

Head of the Supreme Court;

Secretary of the State Security Council;

Deputies of Mejlis;
-
Members of the Cabinet of Ministers;

Human Rights Representative-Justice;
-
Prosecutor General;
-
Minister of Justice;
-
Khyakims of velayats, etraps and cities;
-
Heads of Halk Maslahatys of velayats, etraps and cities;
-
Archyns of cities and towns that are administrative centers of etraps;
-
Leaders of political parties, trade unions and other public associations;
-
Representatives of the community, including elders, proposed by the Halk Maslahatys of the velayats and Ashgabat city.
Also the followings may belong to the authority of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan:

To consider and approve proposals on the issues of adopting the Constitution and constitutional laws of the country, making amendments and additions to them;

To consider and approve the main directions of our country's domestic and foreign policy, as well as the country's political, economic, social and cultural development programs;

Listening to the annual address of the President of Turkmenistan;

Addressing peace and security issues;
-
The realize other powers provided for by the laws of Turkmenistan.
As stated, sessions of the Halk Maslahaty are convened as necessary, at least once a year by its Chairman or on the proposal of one third of the total number of members of the Halk Maslahaty.
