Uzbekistan's wind farm project was recognized as the Deal of the Year in Central Asia


Masdar company from the UAE will build a new wind power plant (WPP) with a capacity of 500 MW in the Uzbek city of Zarafshan. This project received the PFI Awards as the deal of the Year in Central Asia. This is reported by the newspaper "Fergana" with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan.
The PFI (Project Finance International) Awards is one of the most prestigious awards in the field of project finance, a kind of industry "Oscar", which is awarded annually for the best deals in this field in Europe, the USA, Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
The construction of the Zarafshan wind power plant is for Uzbekistan the embodiment of the goals for the large-scale introduction of renewable energy sources. According to the investment agreement, the Arab company Masdar will provide the design, financing, construction and operation of the wind farm. The project will attract over $600 million of foreign direct investment and 1,300 jobs will be created. So many people will be employed both at the construction stage and during the subsequent operation of the wind farm, which is planned to be launched by the end of 2024.
A press release from the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan states that after the launch, the power plant will save 545 million cubic meters of natural gas annually and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1.1 million tons per year, as well as provide annual generation of 1.6 billion kWh of electricity, which is equivalent to the consumption of 500 thousand households.
