Synergy of transport projects of China and Turkmenistan opens up new prospects – Chinese Foreign Ministry

The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Governments of Turkmenistan and the People's Republic of China on the interfacing of the international initiatives "Revival of the Great Silk Road" and "One Belt and One Road" is an important outcome of the visit of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to China. This was stated by the official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry Wang Wenbin at a press conference on January 10.
The new document will make it possible to achieve greater synergy between the initiative of the People's Republic of China "One Belt, One Road" and the initiative of Turkmenistan to revive the Great Silk Road, expand mutually beneficial cooperation in such areas as economy and trade.
This opens up completely new prospects for cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road between China and the five Central Asian countries, Wenbin said, answering a question from one of the journalists.
Over the past year, cooperation within the framework of this project has made steady progress, giving a new impetus to the recovery of the global economy. The Sino-European Railway Express made 16,000 flights and transported 1.6 million TEU of cargo during the year, which is 9% and 10% more than last year. 756,000 TEU of cargo was transported along the new route of the western land-sea corridor, which is 18.5% more, such figures were cited by the official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
He also noted that in 2022, five more countries signed documents on cooperation with China in this area. Just last week, China and the Philippines signed an updated Memorandum of Understanding on the "One Belt, One Road" initiative, Wenbin added.
"We will continue to follow the principle of broad consultations, joint contribution and common benefit, work together with all stakeholders in the pursuit of common development and provide this "development belt" and "road to happiness" to bring more prosperity to more people," Wang Wenbin summed up the topic.
