The meeting was an excellent opportunity to discuss how realized the cooperation issues outlined during the landmark visit of Turkmen leader to Azerbaijan in last August, as well as discuss other important issues on the eve of Ilham Aliyev's coming visit to our country, that would be promising one as well.
Berdimuhamedov and Mammadyarov exchanged the opinions on priority subjects of bilateral cooperation, including economy and humanitarian sphere. Trade, industry, international transit-transport corridors, fuel and energy sector were highlighted among strategic directions of cooperation.
In this case, the success of the activity of Inter-governmental Turkmenistan – Azerbaijan Commission that create conditions to increase trade turnover between the countries, to open joint ventures as well to active contact between business structures was noted.
Undoubtedly, the key direction is cooperation in the energy sector, where Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan stand for the establishment of balanced multi optional system of energy carriers’ supplies to the world markets, which was repeatedly highlighted during the 28th session of the Energy Charter Conference held in Ashgabat in November 2017.
It is noteworthy that representatives of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), which is actively working on the implementation of the Southern Gas Corridor Project, are among high-rank Azerbaijan delegation. This large-scale economic project, supported by the European Commission, will allow the country to export to European countries about 10 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year.
In the context of forthcoming signing of a Convention on the Caspian Sea legal status, Turkmenistan is increasingly becoming one of Azerbaijan's obvious partners in supplying of “blue fuel” to EU countries.
