II CIS Games to be held in all regions of Belarus


For the first time in history, the multisport forum will be held in all regions of Belarus - Minsk, Borisov, Soligorsk, Molodechno, Brest, Orsha, Zhlobin, Grodno, Mogilev. Competitions will be held in 20 sports. It is expected that at least 2,000 athletes under 23 years of age will participate in the competition, and coaches, referees, sports officials, medical personnel, journalists and fans will come with them.
Belarus will host the CIS II Games from August 4 to 14, the Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives of the Commonwealth Member States to the statutory and other bodies of the CIS reported at a meeting. The Council also determined the venue for the third CIS Games - the event will be held in Azerbaijan in 2025, the website of the CIS Executive Committee says.
The meeting also considered the issue of holding under the auspices of the Commonwealth of sports competitions – championships and the CIS cups in certain sports. It was also about the possibility of creating in the future a league in various sports like the CHL or the NHL. The participants noted that the sports system of the CIS is absolutely open to new ideas, since there can be nothing frozen in humanitarian cooperation.
The participants of the meeting once again discussed the initiative of the Russian Federation on the establishment of summer and winter sports contests for children with disabilities in the CIS countries. It is assumed that such competitions will be held every four years, starting with the Winter Spartakiad in 2024 and the Summer Spartakiad in 2026.
Within the framework of the II CIS Games, a scientific and practical conference in the field of physical culture and sports, a meeting of the Council for Physical Culture and Sports of the CIS member states will also be held. In addition, exhibitions of cultures of the CIS member countries will be organized, the anti-doping agency will prepare an educational program for athletes.
Recall that the first CIS Games were held in Kazan in September 2021. They were attended by 1,139 athletes from the Commonwealth states aged 14 to 23 years. The program of the Games included 16 sports.
