Pushkin Institute named the word of the year "heritage"

According to the Pushkin State Institute of the Russian Language, the word of 2022 was "heritage". The project specialists reported that they deliberately excluded words related to political and military topics from the sample this year in order to find the word "positive sounding and public support," according to the official page of the institution in the social network.
The Institute noted that right now it seems important to rethink the historical past with all its achievements and mistakes, to understand the path that should be followed now. No culture develops without great people, and this year the anniversaries of the birth of many outstanding figures are celebrated – Peter I, K. I. Chukovsky, F. P. Wrangel, A. A. Tarkovsky and others. "We continue to preserve and cherish the legacy that these great people have left us," the university concluded.
The Institute of the Russian Language annually summarizes the results of the "Word of the Year" study. The sources are texts of Russian-language media, both Russian and foreign, as well as publications on social networks.
Last year, the Pushkin Institute named Sputnik the word of the year.
