The South Korean spacecraft KPLO (Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter), also called Danuri, went into space for the first time and successfully anchored in the orbit of the Moon, TASS reports with reference to the Ministry of Science and Information and Communication Technologies of the Republic of Korea.

"This is a historic moment that testifies to the high level of space science and technology of the Republic of Korea, about joining the club of space powers," the country's president Yun Seok Yeol wrote in his congratulation on Facebook.

The unpiloted vehicle left Earth 145 days ago. Danuri was captured by the Moon's gravity at a distance of 100 km from the surface with an error of 30 km. He will start performing scientific and technical tasks in 2023.
