President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced reforms to strengthen the executive power in the country next year, Anadolu agency reports.

"New reforms aimed at improving the branches of government are planned in Turkey next year. The transformations will increase the efficiency of the executive power, as well as contribute to the work of the legislative and executive systems," the head of Turkey said during a conference on constitutional law in the Islamic world.

Erdogan noted that any departure from the rule of law reduces respect for the judicial and executive systems.

Turkey has been increasing the powers of the executive branch since 2017, when, following a referendum on amendments to the constitution, the country turned from a parliamentary republic into a presidential republic.
