The post of the President of Tatarstan will be renamed the Raisa of the Republic

The State Council of Tatarstan has adopted a draft amendment to the constitution, which provides for renaming the position of the head of the region from "president" to "rais of the republic" (head), TASS reports.
However, the current head of the republic, Rustam Minnikhanov, will remain president, both legally and in fact — the law on renaming the position will come into force after the end of his term of office, i.e. from 2025.
At the end of last year, Russia adopted a federal law prohibiting the heads of subjects from being called presidents. As a result, as noted in the Tatarstan State Council, a difficult decision was made to bring the constitution into line with federal legislation.
