Turkmenistan activates parliamentary diplomacy
Parliamentary diplomacy of Turkmenistan, as an integral part of the work of the authorities to protect national interests, develop international cooperation and the rule of law, promote the economic interests of the country and form a favorable image of the state on the world stage, was marked by special activity in 2022.
From January to November, 31 meetings were held with representatives of parliaments of various states and international organizations. Mejlis deputies took part in 137 seminars with the participation of international experts and visited 21 working trips abroad.
During this period, Ashgabat hosted the Parliamentary Forum of Central Asian States and the Russian Federation, the Dialogue of Women of Central Asia and Russia, the annual meeting of the Dialogue of Women of Central Asian States, at which the results of Turkmenistan's chairmanship in this structure were summed up.
Since the beginning of the year, delegations headed by the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty – the upper chamber of the Turkmen parliament - have visited the Republic of Tatarstan of the Russian Federation, Japan, Russia, and the Republic of Korea, where they held talks and meetings with high-ranking leaders. The head of the Halk Maslahaty took part as an honorary guest in the meeting of the Council of Heads of Turkic States, which was held in Samarkand.
In addition, meetings were held in Ashgabat with the heads of the parliaments of Turkey and Azerbaijan, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the parliamentary friendship group "France-Central Asia" of the Senate of the French Republic, etc.
Such results in the field of bilateral and multilateral diplomacy of the national Parliament were announced at an expanded meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan on Friday.
