The Eurasian Development Bank has monitored the volume of foreign direct investment (FDI) of the Commonwealth of Independent States, according to the results of which the CIS has developed the most mutually beneficial partnership in this area with China, Iran and Arab states, the EDB website reports.

The total volume of FDI of the Commonwealth countries with these countries exceeded $75 billion. Within the region itself, including Georgia, the volume of accumulated investments amounted to $44.6 billion, 80% of which were formed by Russian capital.

It is also noted that Russia still remains the largest investor in the CIS, Kazakhstan is in second place, and Azerbaijan is the third largest investor. However, Kazakhstan is the leader in terms of attracted funds – it accounts for almost a quarter of all FDI in the CIS, followed by Uzbekistan and Belarus.

In this context, the role of Turkmenistan is noteworthy: despite the fact that the country is not an exporter of FDI, it has entered the list of importers, which is explained by the country's investment attractiveness in the region.
