Ankara, Ashgabat and Baku to create working group on Turkmen gas

Turkmenistan, Turkey and Azerbaijan intend to establish a working group on cooperation in the field of Turkmen natural gas supplies. This was announced on Wednesday by Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu at a joint press conference with his Turkmen and Azerbaijani counterparts in Avaza, on Wednesday.
"We are ready to take joint steps on Turkmen gas for the benefit of the three countries and decided to create a working group on this issue. The memorandum of Understanding on cooperation, which we signed today in the field of energy, represents the necessary basis," the CNN Turk TV channel quotes Cavusoglu on its website.
At a press conference attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov, Cavusoglu said: "In the joint statement adopted at the summit, the heads of our states stressed our will to develop our cooperation at the highest level. We have just signed 5 documents in the fields of energy, trade and economy, customs, transport, science, education and culture."
One of the most important issues on the summit agenda was the development of energy cooperation. "Diversification of sources and routes has become even more important for energy security. This situation has brought to the fore the resources of the Caspian basin. Our geographical position shows how strong we will be when our human and natural resources unite," Cavusoglu said.
