The continuous population and housing census starts in Turkmenistan on Saturday, December 17 and will last until December 27. At the moment, the final stage of preparation for a large campaign has been completed under the motto: "Population Census 2022: Cohesion, happiness, a bright future." The logo of the campaign was a white yurt – a symbol reflecting the nationwide scale of the event, broadcasting the idea of community and unity, devotion to the historical values of the Turkmen people.

The main task of the census is the formation of static information in the field of the number, demographic composition and socio-economic condition of the population of the country. The final census data will make it possible to more accurately direct public funds and efforts in the implementation of socio-economic programs, strategic plans for the development of regions, etc.

Digital technologies are involved in the organization and conduct of the campaign. For example, UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund delivered a batch of smart equipment to the State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan.

The campaign will be conducted using tablets equipped with special software by means of a questionnaire and filling in four electronic census forms. Each of the sheets contains questions of a certain nature, ranging from the type of construction of the building to the age, gender, source of income of the resident.

Citizens of Turkmenistan, foreign citizens and stateless persons will take part in the population census.

The data received from the participants of the action is completely confidential. Qualified personnel during the survey will not require identity documents from citizens. The information transmitted by citizens is protected and applied by the state department only for the purpose of statistical accounting.

Before the start of the census, the State Statistics Committee held a training workshop for staff on issues related to methodology and creating conditions for improving working capacity. The counters will have a special certificate, a green bag with the official emblem of the continuous census of population and housing stock. The form of clothing is green vests with the logo of this promotion.

The last population census in Turkmenistan was held in 2012.
