Turkmenistan will supply Uzbekistan with up to 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas in winter

Uzbekistan imports 1.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas from Turkmenistan in winter to meet domestic demand, a representative of the Fuel and Energy Department of the Uzbek Cabinet of Ministers told RIA Novosti on Tuesday.
Last week, the Uzbek authorities decided to step up the import of gas, electricity, coal and fuel oil due to a shortage of energy resources against the background of the cold weather in the country. Later, Behzot Narmatov, Chairman of the Board of Uztransgaz JSC, said that Uzbekistan had completely stopped exporting gas due to the growth of domestic consumption.
"Turkmenistan will supply up to 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas to Uzbekistan in winter," the agency interlocutor said.
He clarified that agreements on supplies were reached on the eve of negotiations in Ashgabat between the head of the presidential administration of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov and the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
"These supplies will meet the increased demand for gas in Uzbekistan in winter," the representative of the department added.
Earlier, the press service of the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan reported that the republic increased the import of electricity from Turkmenistan due to the growth of domestic consumption: from 17-18 million kW.h up to 20-21 million kW.hours per day.
