The first meeting of the CIS twin cities will be held in 2024

By that time, Ashgabat may become a sister city of St. Petersburg or Moscow and take part in the first meeting of the twin cities of the CIS countries, which is scheduled to be held in 2024. Most likely it will take place in Moscow. The executive secretary of the International Association "Twin Cities" Olga Shirokova told the TASS news agency on Thursday in Ashgabat.
The trip of the head of the association to Ashgabat is connected with the organization of work on the intermarriage of the Turkmen capital with the Russian city. "I believe that Ashgabat is a wonderful, beautiful city and should be related to the same beautiful cities of Russia. Of course, we would be glad if he became related to St. Petersburg, especially since they have close ties. But, perhaps, with Moscow. Cities can have an unlimited number of sister cities. The final decision will be made by the Turkmen authorities," she explained, adding that it would be desirable to hold a kinship before 2024, so that Turkmenistan could take part in the meeting of the twin cities of the CIS countries.
In 2024, the International Association "Twin Cities" celebrates its 60th anniversary. The organization took the initiative to call this year the "Year of Twin Cities of Russia" and to coincide with this date the first meeting of the twin cities of the CIS countries.
