Ashgabat initiated an international dialogue on peace: neutrality as a form of development


The international conference "Dialogue - a guarantee of Peace", dedicated to the International Day of Neutrality and the 27th anniversary of Turkmenistan's neutrality, was held in Ashgabat on Sunday. The forum is organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the UN missions in the country mainly in face-to-face format with the possibility of remote connection of speakers in real time.

The forum coincided with the adoption of the UN General Assembly resolution on Turkmenistan's proposal to proclaim 2023 as the International Year of "Dialogue as a Guarantee of Peace", which did not go unnoticed by the delegates. Heads and representatives of international and regional organizations, state bodies of the UN member states, authoritative public and political figures, international experts were invited to the Ashgabat discussion.

The Director General of the World Health Organization Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of the UN Office in Geneva Tatiana Valovaya, Director General of the International Organization for Migration Antonio Vitorino, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross Miryana Spolyarich Egger, Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Zhang Ming, Secretary General of the Organization for Economic Cooperation Khusrav Noziri and other heads of international organizations sent their video messages to the participants of the event. structures.

Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States Kubanychek Omuraliev and Special Representative of the European Union for Central Asia Teri Hakala also addressed the plenary session.
The International Conference continued in thematic sessions, at which such topics as "Dialogue as the basis for preventive action and conflict prevention", "Strengthening food and environmental security through dialogue" and "Multilateral cooperation in the information space and the role of information networks in establishing interethnic dialogue" were considered. National and international experts, including representatives of UN agencies, spoke out in discussions on these issues.

In addition, bilateral meetings were held on the sidelines of the forum, where aspects of interaction at the governmental and departmental levels, as well as in the field of entrepreneurship, were specified.
In particular, the Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan discussed the priorities of partnership with the Special Representative of the European Union for Central Asia Teri Hakala, Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Europe Olga Algaerova and Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran Reza Nafari.

Negotiations with representatives of international organizations were also held by other members of the Government of Turkmenistan, including in the field of agriculture and environmental protection, the financial and economic sector, education and culture. Meetings were held with the FAO Sub-regional Coordinator for Central Asia Viorel Gutu, Director of the UNESCO Cluster Office in Tehran Golda Eli Khoury and other high-ranking heads of UN units.
