Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan advocate diversification of energy supplies to the European market

Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan are in favor of a diversified energy supply scheme to international markets, in particular, in the European direction. This was stated by Chairman of the upper house of the Turkmen parliament Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedova during talks with his Azerbaijani counterpart Sahiba Gafarova, TDH reports.
In this context, the head of the Halk Maslahaty Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan also noted the importance of bilateral cooperation between states in the energy sector and the development of transport links along the Lapis Lazuli Corridor.

The establishment of supplies of Turkmen energy carriers to the European market through Azerbaijan is one of the priority issues for ensuring the energy security of the region.
Previously analysts assumed that the development of the Dostluk field in the Caspian Sea may be the beginning of the implementation of the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline project, which will allow natural gas from Turkmenistan to reach consumers in Europe through Azerbaijan. The signing of an agreement on joint Turkmen-Azerbaijani development of the field is expected at the trilateral summit of the heads of Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Turkey in Avaza on December 14.
