UNESCO has included Turkmen embroidery in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Mankind during the 17th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Rabat, Kingdom of Morocco.

During the session, it was emphasized that the art of embroidery is one of the most famous and ancient crafts of Turkmenistan, which is passed down from generation to generation. Wool, silk, gold, silver, pearls, colored stones, coins and even corals are used for embroidery. At the same time, almost all work is done with a needle.
