The training course of the OSCE Center in Ashgabat on the rights and duties of journalists has started in Ashgabat, which is attended by representatives of the country's leading media, judicial authorities, the Advocates Association, Legal Consultations of Turkmenistan.

The seminar program includes such key aspects of journalistic activity as legal regulation in the field of freedom of speech, legal standards of journalists in the collection and dissemination of information, ensuring their safety and protection as a necessary condition for media freedom.

The head of the OSCE Center in Ashgabat, John McGregor, noted that by deciding to become an OSCE participating state more than 30 years ago, Turkmenistan committed itself to adhere to international standards and OSCE principles, including in the field of mass media. This workshop will contribute to the fulfillment of these commitments.

For the first time, the course is conducted by national trainers who have passed the relevant OSCE course – representatives of national media and law enforcement agencies.

The seminar will also address issues of personal data protection, the principles of journalists' work with courts, law enforcement agencies, and government agencies.
