In Turkmenistan, the rates of excise taxes on alcohol and the age limit for the sale of tobacco have been increased

As part of the legislative changes in Turkmenistan, the excise tax rates for the production and import of alcohol were increased, and the age limit for the sale of tobacco products was raised from 18 to 21 years.
The relevant laws on amendments and additions to the "Tax Code of Turkmenistan" and the law "On the protection of citizens' health from exposure to tobacco smoke and the consequences of tobacco consumption" were published today in the official Turkmen press.
Thus, the excise tax rate on spirits produced in the country was increased from 53% to 61%, and on tobacco products imported into Turkmenistan from 93% to 116%.
Help: excise tax is an indirect tax on goods that is introduced to regulate demand for it. An increase in excise rates leads to an increase in prices and a decrease in demand, and a decrease in rates leads to a reduction in price and an increase in demand.
