President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received the Speaker of the Turkish Parliament
President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov received on Friday a Turkish delegation led by Parliament Speaker Mustafa Shentop.
Mustafa Shentop conveyed greetings to the Turkmen leader on behalf of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, expressing satisfaction with the visit to a friendly and fraternal country, Anadolu agency reports.
The Speaker noted that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Turkish-Turkmen diplomatic relations and expressed pride in the fact that Ankara was the first in the world to recognize the independence of Turkmenistan.
Shentop highly appreciated the contribution of Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Milli Gengesh (upper house of parliament) of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to bilateral relations. He expressed confidence that the dialogue between Ankara and Ashgabat will continue to deepen for the benefit of the interests of the peoples of the two countries.
The Speaker assured that Turkey will continue to support Turkmenistan's initiatives and positions on all international platforms.
Touching upon the topic of economic relations between the two countries, Mustafa Shentop expressed confidence that the trade turnover will soon reach $ 5 billion, and noted Turkey's readiness to cooperate with Turkmenistan in the energy sector, including in the context of gas exports to Western markets through the Caspian Sea.
The Speaker of the Turkish Parliament stressed the importance of cooperation between the two countries to ensure peace and stability in the world.
On the same day, Mustafa Shentop addressed the Parliament of Turkmenistan.
"The unity of our countries, which have assumed obligations to ensure international security, prosperity and peace, and are striving to fulfill them properly, will always contribute to the security and stability not only of the region, but also of the whole world," the publication quotes from his speech.
Stressing that the Turkic world has become the center of global geopolitics, Shentop said that it is also important to develop cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries.
