The speaker of the Turkish parliament flew to Ashgabat on the eve of Erdogan's visit
The Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Mustafa Shentop and his accompanying parliamentary delegation arrived in Ashgabat on Thursday for an official two-day visit.
The Turkish parliamentarians began their visit by laying a wreath at the Monument of Independence of Turkmenistan, and then visited the National Carpet Museum.
According to the Turkish political newspaper Yenicag, here Shentop, in an interview with journalists about various security problems on energy transmission routes, said that the corridor leading to Europe through Turkey has become very important.
Noting that some countries, for example, Azerbaijan, have decided to increase natural gas supplies to Europe, Shentop said: "It is very important that Turkmen gas also becomes more active at this time of energy shortage," the publication quotes him as saying.
He also noted that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev will visit Turkmenistan and make efforts to reach a trilateral agreement on energy. "In this regard, important work has been done on infrastructure. I think this cooperation has become much more valuable and important during this period. I hope that such a visit will take place as soon as possible," Shentop said.
