Turkmen experts discussed the application of international food standards at the WHO seminar

The representative of the Regional Office for Europe of the World Health Organization (WHO/Europe), Dr. Geronimas Maskelunas, held a seminar on standardization of food products in Turkmenistan in accordance with the Codex Alimentarius — a set of international food standards, the official Turkmen media reported.
During the seminar, specialists from Turkmenistan got acquainted with the technical rules of food production in the European Union. The progress made by Turkmenistan in the field of standardization of the food industry was also noted.
The Codex Alimentarius represents the standards, norms and rules of food production adopted by the international community. Within the framework of the code, new international standards regulating the safety and quality of food products supplied to the world market are also being developed.
Turkmenistan became a member of the Codex Alimentarius Commission in 2012, and in 2019, the country was selected to implement the Codex Trust Fund (CTF) project. Compliance with this code contributes to the expansion of cooperation in the food field between national producers.
