Ex-President Lula da Silva won the elections in Brazil


Former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who headed Brazil in 2003-2010, won the second round of the presidential election, ahead of the current head of state Jair Bolsonara in terms of the number of votes, the BBC reports.
The gap between the candidates for the highest state post was minimal – Lula da Silva received 50.85% of the vote against Bolsonaro's 49.15%.
Earlier, in the first round of the presidential elections in Brazil, none of the candidates won more than 50% of the vote, after which a second round was announced.
77-year-old Luis Inacio Lula da Silva was nominated as a presidential candidate from the socialist coalition "Brazilian Federation of Hope". In 2010, he left the post of head of state after two terms with a record level of approval – above 85%.
