Scientists from Turkmenistan and Russia discussed the fight against desertification
Scientists of Turkmenistan and Russia discussed joint research in the field of desertification at a meeting on the occasion of the arrival in Turkmenistan of representatives of the Russian Research Institute named after A.N.Kostyakov, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reports.
The discussions were held within the framework of an agreement signed in the summer between the National Institute of Deserts, Flora and Fauna, the Environmental Protection Service of the Ministry of Agriculture of Turkmenistan and the All-Russian Research Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and Melioration named after A.N.Kostyakov.
Scientists from the two countries discussed the use of geographic information systems, space sensing technologies, the development of sand fixing practices and the restoration of degraded farmland.
Following the meeting, the parties considered the possibility of assessing the consumption of water resources in the conditions of the development of the agricultural sector of the country.
