The ministers of foreign affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and Khawaja Muhammad Asif of Pakistan chaired Monday (15 Jan) inaugural session of Pakistan-Turkmenistan Bilateral Political Consultations in Islamabad, says press release, circulated by Pakistani foreign ministry. Rapid implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project took one of the top places in the agenda of talks. The sides expressed the satisfaction with present level of bilateral relationship and agreed on further efforts to be focused on such areas as agriculture, livestock, textile and IT sector. They also negotiated the opportunities for developing the connectivity projects, including air and land communications, aimed at promoting trade, travel, tourism and inter-people contacts. During the consultations, the pace of implementation of decisions, taken by the Joint Governmental Commission during last session in Ashgabat in August 2017 was reviewed. As Associated Press of Pakistan reports, foreign ministers signed the Agreement between the Government of Islamic Republic of Pakistan and Turkmenistan on abolition of visa requirements for the holders of diplomatic passports. Later, Meredov paid a courtesy call on the President of Mamnoon Hussain and handed over him an invitation from the President of Turkmenistan for groundbreaking ceremony of the Afghan segment of TAPI scheduled for second half of February 2018. Pakistan and Turkmenistan enjoy fraternal relations, based on principles of trust, mutual respect and understanding. The two countries also cooperate successfully in the regional and multilateral formats.
