Caspian littoral countries to extend ban on sturgeon fishing

Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Iran, Russia and Azerbaijan will extend the ban on sturgeon fishing and maintain export quotas for black caviar, Press TV international channel reports.

"In accordance with the Agreement on the Conservation and Rational Use of Aquatic Biological Resources of the Caspian Sea, the ban on commercial fishing of sturgeon has been approved and will last for one more year," Director General of the Department for the Restoration and Protection of Aquatic Genetic Resources of Iran Nasser Karami—Rad said in an interview with the TV channel.

The Caspian Sea is one of the largest sources of caviar in the world - it produces about 90% of the world's marine resources.
