A new railway bridge across the Karakum River opened in Mary region
A new railway bridge across the Karakum River was put into operation in the Turkmenkalinsky district of Mary region on Wednesday, October 12. The object was erected between the 4270th and 4271st kilometer of the section of the steel line between Gurbangala and Zahmet stations.
The length of the bridge is 250 meters, it has 6 reinforced concrete pillars and 5 metal spans: two of 33.6 meters and three of 55 meters.
The main metal structures of the bridge are made by the Russian manufacturer "Tyumenstalmost". The steel span consists of 4615 elements fastened with high-strength bolts weighing 31 tons.
132 ballast-free plates are installed in the bridge superstructure, which are effective and promising in terms of operational reliability and durability of the upper structure of the track. In total, 320 workers and specialists were employed in the construction of this facility.
At the opening ceremony of the bridge, which was held in a festive format, the head of the agency "Turkmen Railways" Azat Atamyradov made a speech. He congratulated the industry workers on today's event and generally noted the successes in its development, modernization of the material and technical base, renewal and expansion of rolling stock.
Recently, JSC "Railways" has signed contracts with JSC "Russian Railways" and the Bryansk Machine–Building Plant of the Transmashholding Group for the purchase of 5 two-section mainline freight locomotives, as well as with CRRC Ziyang Co., Ltd. (China) - for the purchase of 15 mainline freight locomotives, two of which have already arrived, and the rest will be to enter Turkmenistan by the end of January 2023, Atamyradov recalled.
Developing the internal railway infrastructure, Turkmenistan actively participates in the implementation of a number of major projects of regional and continental importance in the field of transport and logistics, including the formation of transit corridors in the directions "North-South" and "East-West" to create a reliable connection between Europe and Asia, makes a significant contribution to improving the efficiency of the railway Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran is working on a project to build the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan railway and other plans to connect to the international transport system.
