Iran plans to connect national power grid to Russia via Turkmenistan

Iran is working on a project to connect the national electricity grid to Russia via a transmission line passing through Turkmenistan, Deputy Energy Minister for International Affairs Mohammad-Ali Farahnakian has announced, according to iranpress.com.
This plan will make it possible to exchange electricity with members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and was first initiated at the summit of the Caspian Sea states in June in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.
For the implementation of the plan, it is only necessary to build the third electricity transmission line between Iran and Turkmenistan because the first two are already in operation, the senior Iranian official Mohammad-Ali Farahnakian stated.
Iran is currently holding consultations to connect its national energy system to the energy grids of the SCO member states through Turkmenistan and Tajikistan, according to Iranian mass media.
