Serdar Berdimuhamedov laid wreaths at the People's Memory memorial


Memorial Day was held in Turkmenistan. Every year on October 6, the victims of the Ashgabat earthquake of 1948 and those who died in the war are commemorated in the country.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov today laid wreaths at the monuments of the capital's memorial complex "People's Memory", which unites three large sculptural compositions.

One of them is dedicated to the tragedy of 1948, when an underground calamity completely destroyed Ashgabat and killed more than 170,000 people. 74 years have passed since that fateful night, but the date of October 6 still shudders in the hearts of the Turkmen people, even the younger generation, because stories about this catastrophe have become part of the history of many, many families.

Two other monuments are dedicated to the soldiers of the Great Patriotic War and those who fought for their native land in other battles.
Following the head of state, members of the government, heads and representatives of the parliament, various departments, as well as diplomatic missions and international organizations, residents of Ashgabat laid flowers.

After the ceremony, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov took part in a sadaka - a memorial meal, which was held in a specially designated facility in accordance with national traditions.
