David Lappartien: International Cycling Union thanks Turkmenistan


The International Cycling Union has chosen Ashgabat to hold the World Track Cycling Championship in 2021, the president of this organization, David Lappartien, confirmed today.
He spoke at a ceremony during the start of a mass bike ride in Ashgabat on the occasion of World Bicycle Day. Lappartien said about the great personal role of President Berdimuhamedov in that such a holiday appeared in the calendar of international dates.
The International Cycling Union expressed its appreciation to Turkmenistan and the Turkmen leader for diplomatic efforts to promote this initiative in the UN.
World Bicycle Day promotes respect for the environment, enhancing people's health, developing sports and physical education, said the President of Turkmenistan, who took part in a mass bike ride.
The day before, on June 1, a bicycle flashmob with the participation of 2019 people took place in Ashgabat. Lined up one after another, they traveled around the Olympic Village - the largest sports complex in the Central Asian region, combining about forty independent objects. March hit distance is 3.3 km.
The action claimed to hit the Guinness Book of Records, which is what happened. The certificate of registration of the longest single-row bike held in Ashgabat was issued today by the official representative of Guinness World Records.
