President of Uzbekistan considers it important to expand parliamentary cooperation with Turkmenistan
Chairman of the Mejlis of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan Gulshat Mamedova met with the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev during her visit to Tashkent on September 8-9 to participate in the summit of women leaders of parliaments of the world.
The Speaker of the Mejlis conveyed greetings and best wishes from the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of the Milli Gengesh Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the Uzbek leader.
The Head of Uzbekistan noted the high level of bilateral relations based on strong ties of friendship and good neighborliness, trust, and strategic partnership.
The important role of national parliaments in expanding multifaceted cooperation, promoting joint projects and programs of cultural and humanitarian exchange was emphasized.
The 14th Summit of Women Heads of Parliaments of the Inter-Parliamentary Union member States was dedicated to the theme "Parliamentary Leadership: Predicting risks for better sustainability and prosperity". The forum was attended by heads of international organizations, such as the UN, the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, as well as more than 120 representatives of the parliaments of 17 countries.
They discussed the priority tasks facing parliaments, as well as issues of guaranteeing gender equality in the crisis caused by the pandemic, ensuring sustainable development and well-being, and expanding women's opportunities in economic recovery.
Addressing the summit, Speaker of the Mejlis of Milli Gengesh Gulshat Mamedova noted that Turkmenistan attaches great importance to the use of parliamentary diplomacy tools in strengthening peace and security. She expressed the readiness of the Parliament of Turkmenistan for bilateral and multilateral cooperation in ensuring peace and security, achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
