Cotton harvesting campaign in Turkmenistan starts on September 7

Mass cotton harvest will begin on September 7 in four regions of Turkmenistan - Akhal, Balkan, Lebap and Mary. The northern region, Dashoguz, will traditionally enter the campaign a week later, on September 14th.
These dates were approved by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov at a meeting of the Turkmen government on Friday. The head of state wished to the cotton growers of the country and all agricultural workers health, well-being and great success in work.
In the spring of 2022, 580 thousand hectares were sown with cotton in Turkmenistan, that is, 40 thousand hectares less than in previous years. The reduction of the cotton sowing area was undertaken in favor of the cultivation of potatoes and other fruit and vegetable crops in order to ensure food abundance through local farming.
