Secretary General of the International Transport Forum Kim Young Tae intends to visit Turkmenistan as part of a tour to Central Asia. The head of the organization, whose secretariat is located in Paris, said this during a meeting with the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to France Maksat Charyev on Tuesday.

Kim Young Tae also invited Turkmenistan to become a member of the ITF, emphasizing the country's increasing role in the international arena in the transport sector, in initiating and developing transport corridors at the regional and continental levels.

The ITF welcomes and supports such an active position of Turkmenistan, the Secretary General said, noting that the expansion of the geography of the Forum's members, especially in the Asian direction, is a priority area of its mandate.

The Ambassador expressed gratitude for the participation and speech of the Deputy Secretary General of the ITF at the Conference of Ministers of Transport of Landlocked Developing Countries, which was held a little more than two weeks ago in Avaza. Turkmenistan is ready and open to establishing and developing a closer dialogue and cooperation with the ITF, the diplomat said.

Maksat Charyev acquainted Kim Young Tae with Turkmenistan's major infrastructure projects in the transport sector, prospects for the development of transit corridors promoted by the country. Special attention was paid to new initiatives announced by the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov at the recent conference of transport ministers.

The ITF Secretary General highly appreciated Turkmenistan's international activity in the field of transport and invited high-ranking leaders of this sphere to participate as the guests of honor in the annual summit of Ministers of Transport of the ITF member countries, which is held annually in Leipzig, Germany. The next such summit will be held in May 2023.

The International Transport Forum is an intergovernmental organization in which 64 countries participate. The ITF is the only global body that covers all means of transport. The organization deals with transportation issues and links between different means of transport.

The ITF is administratively integrated into the OECD, but at the same time politically independent. As part of the ITF summits, key representatives of governmental and political organizations, commercial and industrial enterprises, research institutions and civil society gather in Leipzig every year.
